Thread about Anime.
hey. so i felt this needed to be.
i know i'm not the only anime fan around these part. (looks at robrich)
so i just finished .hack//sign. and Azumanga daioh earlier this week.
i enjoyed hack sign much more.
so what are some good ones i can watch that i've missed? i plan on watching .hack//dusk and .hack//liminality soon as i get the eps i'm missing from each. 1 per i think.
i do have a big pile of anime as can be seen on the anime page of my site. if you can recomend any that i have that i havn't watched.
hmm i dunno where else to go with this.

I use to watch Speed Racer about 30 years ago I guess you could call that some sort of anime.

Excellent collection IMO!
How about these?
Noir
Dirty Pair Flash
Patlabor
Bubble Gum Crisis
Tenchi Muyo (OVA and Universe, not Tokyo!)
Macross Plus
Sakura Diaries
I could go on forever...

heh. i've been wanting to get Bubblegum crisis. i have a hard time finding them. i always get the 2150 or whatever instead of the reg one. and i started to watch sakura diaries. i watched the first ep. but i only have 3 of them i think.

Dirty Pair Flash probably rates as my all time favorite. Over the top comedy, huge explosions, and great character development. I was rolling in the floor laughing after only one episode, definitely a great pick if you like anime comedies.
Naturally I should add the classic Project Ako series as well. That was the best parody series of all time, though some of the humor might be lost if you didn't watch a lot of late 80's and early 90's anime.Robert Richmond | Infinite perceptions. One reality.

I'm a big anime fan,
as for new stuff on IRC and Kazaa, Macross Zero has some of the best CG work I've seen. I liked some of the stuff on TechTV, I haven't seen the show they are about to start. I catch .hack//sign on Cartoon Network whenever I can, I like it.
The Animatrix short films are good, I like how they are done by different directors.
Here's a few new shows to look for;
Witch Hunter Robin, Heatguy J, Ghost in the Shell - Stand Alone Complex, Wolf's Rain, and Samurai Deeper Kyo.

Ghost in the Shell - Stand Alone Complex
Most excellent choice James. Great example of quality animation techniques.
I still have never watched all of Trigun, must get around to doing that one of these days. Cowboy Bebop was fun, though I recommend watching it start to end to best understand the complete plot development. Sort of like watching any Gundam series, you miss one episode, then you don't have a clue what is going on.Robert Richmond | Infinite perceptions. One reality.

and i usally wait untill i have the whole series before i start watching. but sometimes i get the first ep to see if i might like a un reviewed anime.
the internet is great.

I need a copy of the rumored eight hour cutting room floor version of Akira. Only a few copies "supposedly" exist, but I have not had any luck in finding one.
Akira is above average IMO. The image quality was superb for its day. The plot could have been clearer, as most people have to watch it a couple of times to pick up on the background details. Similar to the first Ghost in the Shell movie. The real key to unlocking the background plot was related to the political aspects of the General and his asylum, not just the puppet master.Robert Richmond | Infinite perceptions. One reality.

I have seen parts of a couple episodes, strange indeed. It is often refered to as South Park on crack!
Weird side? PPC might actually be classified as normal when compared to the imports you can find at J-List these days.Robert Richmond | Infinite perceptions. One reality.

rob says:
Noir - seen the first 10 episodes, very good
Dirty Pair Flash - never seen
Patlabor - never seen
Bubble Gum Crisis - ...
Tenchi Muyo (OVA and Universe, not Tokyo!) - yeah, tokyo sucks big time, but the others are great
Macross Plus - never seen
Sakura Diaries - never seen
i reccomend:
evangelion, which you have seen, but for those who havnt, do, because it is awesome
inuyasha, my favorite anime now
ninja scroll and x are good stand alone movies, i think there is also a prequel to x now
oh my goddess, dunno if you have seen
hand maid is the cutest, which you have seen..
iver seen an episode of love hina, it looked good
i like jlist.. they have some, lets just say, intersting.. stuff
i usually get my anime on dvd locally.. like media play or something.. yeah yeah.. im evil
oh and i have 4 trigun dvds.. i refused to watch it on cartoon network after the first couple episodes.. it deserved more respect then dubbing.. i never saw inuyasha on tv, just subbed dvd.. having seen an episode or two dubbed, i am happy i didnt make myself sufferLast edited by JacobM5727; April 27th, 2003 at 01:17 AM.

April 27th, 2003, 01:31 AM #17What is the "..." supposed to mean? Surprised you haven't seen many on my recommend list, most are rather old animes now. Though probably not of the genres most people are watching anymore.Bubble Gum Crisis - ...
Jlist? Yes, interesting indeed.
Now to the real question at hand, how many are real otakus? I mean, you can watch anime, but how does it affect your life? Do you read fan fiction (addicted myself), go to conventions (great place to buy cheap), perhaps even cosplay (these people scare me!)?Robert Richmond | Infinite perceptions. One reality.

w00t for fan subs. nice to know i have some of what you guys are saying waiting to be watched.

i know the ones i'm gogin to test watch are... gunparage march. kiddy grade... i liked how one piece was going so i got a large chunk of the series. magic knight rayearth i'll start watching again once i get like the 2 eps i'm missing (/me curses p2p)
fruits basket. is very good. i liked it alot.
outlaw star. i liked the dubed so if i get to it i have the whole thing subed.
i hear Kenshin is good as well. both the tv run and the ova. they are on the to watch list as well.
edit. well i've lost sleep over anime. wanted to read the mangas. (read i'm poor.) and no anime conventions.
when i get in the anime zone i dont like to be disturbed by silly things like sleeping and eating. thats usally why it takes me so long to start watching something that i've had for a while. i like to make sure that the world can live without me for the weekend. nothing like when i started to watch .. NGE for the first time thru. then i had to wake up and go to school come home and finish it beacuse i forced myself to go to sleep.Last edited by BobOmega; April 27th, 2003 at 01:35 AM.

i loved cowboy bebop.. but yeah
i hate dubbing, here are some reasons why:
- it has absolutely no emotion
- voices are never as deep or high as they should be, i know sometimes the girls get a little high crazy, but its still way better then some preppy american girl who has no clue what she is saying, and cant even pronounce names
- the prouncing stuff.. if you cant say a name you shouldnt do the voice
- dubs have altered language.. if a little kid is cussing, i want to hear it, maybe with some emotion, it would make sense
- other small reasons.. basically i hate the americanization and toning down that happens to good shows--Jacob--

April 27th, 2003, 01:34 AM #20You called it, they have hacked and butchered many fine quality animes. Still, I guess CN is good for hooking new people into the anime world. Anyone remember watching anime on SciFi at 3 AM Sunday mornings?yah stay away from the Cartoon network crapRobert Richmond | Infinite perceptions. One reality.
