| Johnny Cash singing NIN songs?
I was at a clients office loading some programs and what do I hear on the country station they are listening to but Johnny Cash singing Nine Inch Nails - Hurt.
Holy that threw me off I was wait a minute I recognize that song and looked at the TV and noticed that it wasn't Trent Reznor singing the song but Johnny.
What's next Garth Brooks singing Rage Against The Machine's songs? |

He does all of these songs in a piano bar type singing style kind of a big bandish type singer.. its actually quite funny hearing I want to F you like an animal in a jazz voice
... and you too can buy this fabulous album "Lounge Against the Machine"!! http://www.ideatown.com/rc/buy-disco.html
Cant' remember who told me about him though |

| Where ya been, Bones?
Cash has been working with Rick Rubin (Run-DMC, Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers) since "American Recordings" in 1994. That CD included a cover of Danzig's "Thirteen". "Unchained" followed in 1996 with Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage" and Beck's "Rowboat", and featured Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers as the backup band. Petty returned on "American III: Solitary Man" in 2000 which included U2's "One" and Nick Cave's "Mercy Seat". 2002 saw the release of "American IV: The Man Comes Around". On it are Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus" and Reznor's "Hurt".
Whether the idea appeals to you or not, these recordings all have some fascinating moments. Quality musicians, regardless of their "style", will tell you that they are musicians first. Take a risk...download a track or two and listen.

well as far as i am concerned if a country star is gonna cover a metal track then it should be Johnny Cash. Not a country fan but the man is cool and been through a much as any of the metal heads.

I love his verson of Hurt - very nice - not many people can take a song like Hurt and make it sound better than NIN (just my opinion)

Reznor made 'Hurt' a sad song, Mr. Cash was able to bring it to downright painfull. (complimentary)
He's been doing a cover like that per album for some time.
BTW, Mr Cash doesnt sing country music, he sings Johnny Cash music.
Sadly he is very ill and his wife just passed away, when this man passes you will hear a lot of his music and be blown away. He has albums and albums worth of great stuff that is rarely played on any radio station.
If you get a chance check out his version of Depech Mode's 'Personal Jesus' again in this song he blows away the original.

I am sorry and obviously in the minority, but I think his covers are hilarious....and if i hadn't know better, would swear they were a joke.
So bad there good?
I don't know....maybe if I had never heard the originals, I would say they were good songs, but, I just can't get past it. |

I kind of like it. Not as much as the original, of course (by NIN), but it is pretty cool.
