I wouldn't count Casablanca as a historical film; it's just an old one. It was made at the same time as the events it describes.
It's also not a foreign film, even though it takes place outside the US and has some non-American actors.
It is one of my favorites, though. And you should try to see it as part of a double-bill with the Marx Brothers' A Night in Casablanca, their wonderful takeoff on Casablanca.
I wasn't trying to say Casablanca was historicle or a foreign film. I was just making the coment that is there.
Some other historicle films I've come across are,
The Scarlet and the Black, Jerry London. Based on the true story of an Irish priest working in the Vatican during the German occupation who is trying to hide refugees and allied POW's.
The Crucible, Nicholas Hytner. The Salem witch trials.
Masada, George Eckstein. The events leading up to the downfall of Masada.
And BTW in yesterdays newspaper they had an article about the death of the author of Exodus, died at the age of 78. And the week before they had one about Gregory Peck, died at 87. Bitter tidings indeed.
At Amazon I was looking at Das Boot and they have several diferent versions, there is Das Boot, Das Boot - The Director's Cut, and Das Boot - Director's Cut (Superbit Collection). Which is best?
Also, how good is the film, The Killing Fields?
