    Apocalypse Now (redux)

Got stuck in the house this afternoon and was watching the Cleveland Grand Prix---during a commercial I came by Apocalypse Now just starting---it was the redo (redux?) version put together in 2001 with added scenes---I saw the movie almost 25 years ago when it came out---I dont see many movies and have seen almost nothing new (to speak of) in 15-20 years---

This was so intense I was glued in my well worn LazyBoy for 4 hours---I followed along with an excellent well written 10-12 page review gaining insight to things relevant in the movie I missed--- http://www.filmsite.org/apoc.html

IF you have never seen this movie ---do so---if you saw it 25 years ago like me, check out the redux version...

A documentary about the film's chaotic making, shot in part by Coppola's wife Eleanor and including interviews with most of the cast and crew, was titled Hearts of Darkness: A Film-maker's Apocalypse (1991)---I saw this a few years ago as well---documents the 17 week shoot that lasted 16 months...

    Great stuff...

I've seen bits and pieces, didn't seem too bad, of course Full Metal jacket is also another good movie on Vietnam, It's mainly comedy but it seems to get serious later in the film.

My father took me to see the redux at the movies. It was indeed good then.

I saw the original when I was 12 but it was a bit much then.

I prefer the original; one of my favorite movies. The extra footage of the redux made the already long film drag on forever without furthering the plot development in any meaningful way.

The thing is, if you want to see either version, you should see it on the big screen, not the box. It's visually stunning.
