HL RUINED THE INTERNET!!!
My internet has been horible this morning. VERY slow. It doesn't really seem like it's my line either. I did all the normal stuff of resettin the moden, reboting. Nothing sems to help, web site takes forever to appear.
Well, I happen to swing by Filplanet, and on their front page was a new HL update. "Uh oh" that means EVERYBODY is on trying to get it. Then I realized it was a HL/CS update! Everybody and a 1/2 is out there now! Then I realized it was a 374MB file!!!! Now people are sitting there downlaoding for HOURS!
I looked at the lines to download it and the average wait was somewhere around 214 minutes. 197 minute wait time at fileshack.
At gamershell all 7 international 100MBit piplines were full.
No wonder my internet is slow. THE WHOLE WORLD IS SLOW! With all the people tying to get the newest hal, servers are being tested to their max capacity. It's a wonder the internet even works.
GEEZ! HL really is like nothing else.Abit AW9D-Max | E6300 | XP-120 | Panaflow 120mm | 2x 1GB G.Skill DDR2-800 | BFG 8800GT | Corsair 650w

RedHat kills more internet than HL ever thought about. 100's of mirrors and all of them full up for weeks when there is a new release.
My computer is bigger than yours!

I don't know what you guys are talking about. The HL/CS update is only 592k and just a quickie patch. The fileplanet file is a complete install of both games. Why they posted that I have no idea.

There is a tiny 592K download, but once u install that you have to download almost 400mb if u want HL and CS installed. Fileplanet has it in one chuink

You can search via torrent sites (the best method), your friend google, or via p2p networks like shareaza(a bit risky).

I tried to get the first hl demo (the 594mb package) from fileplanet but got so frustrated to their queuing system that I searchd for alternative locations.
Found a ftp server from which I got it at the maximum throughput, against the 3kbs I got from fileplanet server...

I found that with Fileplanet it was WAY faster to wait an hour or two and then get it at 200k than it was to start immediately but get it at 10k

It's probably highly rated because of the level of violence. The story is decent.
