i really like the actor, he is from gossford park. he really pulls off the 'silent killer' look. those films are awesome, i think hostage is the best. he really digs those fishtails Woo rocks hard...there was a movie i didnt like that he did though, i will have to figure which movies i am thinking about. the idea of this is really cool, i just dont understand how it is practical for BMW, these shorts cost what? couple hundred grand? is that effective marketing?
EDIT: Mission: Impossible II directed by Woo, and a big let down.

They'd be lucky if they only cost a few hundred grand. The cars alone that they wrecked were 50 - 70,000 each. No telling what the actors are getting paid. And the directors! Geez. They are probably getting a few hundred thou themselves. Those are bigtime directors. They don't come cheap.
Overall, even with all those expenses, I'd bet it's very cost effective. What do regular commercials cost? They are pretty expensive to make too. Then you also gotta pay for the time on air to show them. Then, very quickly, they die. These movies are costing practically nothing to show to people, just the download bandwidth. And here it is over a year after those first movies were made and there's still people, like you, going to see them. Plus when they first came out they were all the rage. I remember waiting eagerly for each one to be released over the many weeks time that it took. |

hmm, i wasnt adding in the cars, i was seeing it more of a vertical expense, meaning that it is a BMW car, so it doesnt cost them anything to use their own cars. but yeah, i dunno how much directors cost, can't say i have ever had to hire one but i do see your point on longevity of the commercial. perhaps it is worth it, and it is an original idea. |

I read somewhere that BMW is spending something like $3 for every person that sees the film. It was considered a "very cost effective" advertising campaign for them by the company that was reviewing the site.
If this is the "new advertising" I like it!
