Jesus didn't say "Zacchaeus, quit robbing people of their hard earned money and I'll come to your house" He didn't say to the woman at the well "Stop sleeping around and get married and you can be saved" He didn't ever set any stipulations that someone had to give up something in order to be saved. You get saved and then choose to give it up or not, depending on your personal choices. You have to decide for yourself, with God's guidance if something is wrong or right for you. Just b/c a preacher says it, does not make it law.[quote]
I was under the idea that you have to give up everything (example: the rich young ruler) to be saved.....just a thought.
otherwise this whole thread makes me sad. I dont know why I even bother opening religious based threads anymore. |

No, you have to give up nothing.
It was a test of the man's true faith. The point behind the rich man was that you have to trust 100%. The rich man decided to put his trust in his material goods instead of following Jesus.
If we had to give up everything then we'd all be monks |

If you still want to give up your worldly possessions to feel closer to Jesus I'll be glad to take them off our hands. |

| Repent
I thought that was a big thing in the bible.
Is that not in the new testament. I thought to get into heaven you must at least be sorry for your sins. If you continue to sin unchanged, is that not failing to repent?
My understanding of the church is that all people should be allowed in though. The repenting is something you have to do yourself. But the repentless is doomed! Doomed I say!!!
Of course I believe that an active, gay person, thief, rapist, cheater, or democrat should not be allowed to achieve a leadership roll. I think someone who is continuing to sin does not make a great roll model.
Of course that is assuming that the bible (what ever holy book) is right. |

Curious that Epidemic should be asking questions about the Bible. Encouraging but curious. |

I have knowledge of the bible, I just do not buy it.
I have opinions on what the rules are and how people should follow its rules based upon my interperetation. |
