Is it bad to mix gas from different stations?

I don't see why it would be. Gas is gas. I've never heard of studies showing that it messes up your engine. If it was bad, there would be regulations against pumping gas at different stations.

I keep being told by people not to shop around for gases because it's bad. I don't think it is, but I don't have any proof that it isn't bad.

Key to buying gas => cheaper is better. It's all the same, so pay as little as possible.

that's what i try to tell them! they insist that different stations have different kinds of gas, so mixing them would be bad. they want technical proof.

Haha! Sorry... It's a lot of people. A few friends of mine make that argument. People in my Microeconomics class make that argument also. I've just been hearing it a lot lately and finally needed to vent.

If they have the same octane they're pretty much the same. Like M_Six said get the cheapest. The thing to watch out for though is the station that just got refilled. The tanks are churned up. Rust and water are what you don't want to pump into your tank.

It's not true that all gas is equal. In Canada there was a period where Shell was placing additives into the gas (to increase performance apparently) which would then damage the mechanism that measures the amount of gas that was in the tank. Although it was confined to several car models, it shows that all gas isn't equal.

You'll find different blends of gasoline in different stations, but ponder this...

If you can gas your vehicle up at any one of these stations and your car runs on that gas....why would it matter which one you bought it from?

Sure, some people actually have loyalties to certain gas stations, but in the end it's all fuel for your vehicle.

Consider this, we use corn alcohol in our gasoline ( state mandate ), but we do have a few stations that also carry non-oxygenated fuel for older vehicles, etc.

The worst you'll get is bad gas, and chances of that happening are relatively slim.

Besides, even if you decided to stick with one company, what are you going to do if you can't find one of their stations and you NEED gas? There is still going to be enough gas ( unless you ran it completely empty ) left in the tank to mix with the other stations gas.

Tell them they can stick with their "single brand" of gasoline, and that you'll continue to enjoy both Pepsi and Coke
