| New Year's Eve and Day Traditions.....
I'd love to know what people around the world do as a traditional celebration for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day....
...family heritage kinda thing, what is special for you and your families.....
....remember, traditions can be started anytime and can remain a heartfelt part of one's life forever.....
...please include some family memories.... grandma's special quilt, a special place, a special meal, a special beverage.....
..... I want to bring out some wonderful traditions and add some new ones........
Thanks to ALL that reply........ that's special too............. |

Yea, there are parties and drinking and stuff.....
But when it comes down to it.... what did your family do when you were young?
Are there any traditions you can share? |

Lets see, when I was a kid we would watch movies (usually war movies like Bridge to Far, The Longest Day, etc) at midnight we would do the celebration thing, finish the movie, and go to bed. |

Ahhhh, memories of New Year's eve....
We would throw a party, put up a HUGE piece of photograper's "seamless" paper on the wall, and hang a jar of colorful markers on the wall, for people to write their resolutions!
The liquor table was exceedingly well stocked... the theory being, "In Vino, Veritas". Also, we just liked getting hammered that night.
The music blasted away, dancing was not encouraged, but applauded. Especially that long-legged pony who did the best dirty-dancing!
At midnight, I'd blast the theme from the "Star Wars" soundtrack, and suddenly there would be spools of used ticker-tape* flying, covering the whole place within seconds...and for some reason, when things get this crazy, there is a LOT of inter-gender wrestling and making-out under the ( two-three feet deep) ticker-tape!
We never let anybody drive home (the party would typically go 'til dawn, anyway) and the next day, you couldn't believe how the place looked...tickertape and dead bodies all over the place!
Me and the (then) wife would attempt to make eggs and biscuits and sausage gravy...and Bloody Marys for all and sundry! W00t!
Our poor abused guests would file out around around 1 pm...vowing to be good.
HAH! *Ticker-Tape: An ancient method of data storage...it was plain 20 lb. paper on spool about an inch wide, and about 8" in diameter. The machine would punch little holes in it, which could be re-read by the same machine. |

Hmmm I don't recall any special tradition when i was little. I think the biggest thing was we was allowed to stay up late that one night and then as soon as 12:01am hit we had to go to bed. Well with 6 of us kids who can blame my folks.
Now a day, mostly let kids stay up and watch a movie and then watch the count down on tv and then as soon as 12:04 hits kids are off to bed. So they are lucky and get an extra 3 minutes over me.
Seriously, we really don't have no special tradition tho. Might change cuz with us being closed for New Years Day now we just might start a new tradition.
I had a party one year. that was oh gosh 3 or 4 years ago I think. That was a blast. Only about 20 Deafies got invited and about 60 showed up! All at my old house. Glad it was big enough to handle. Many had to spend the night cuz wouldn't let them drive. But it was fun. |

Marcia and I usually spend New Year's Eve with another couple, but they're in Berlin this year visiting their younger son and his family. We'll just stay home, eat oysters (if we can get our act together) and zonk out about 11 o'clock. |

When I was a youngun. We had a big dinner on New Year's Day. Featuring.....black eyed peas for good luck in the new year. I still don't like black eyed peas. But it was fun. Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, Aunts, Uncles, and all the kids.
