Music Swapping Down...BUT

are sales up? The whole point of the exercise is to sell more product! If sales aren't up, then the industry may be losing. There may be less interest in the music and therefore less money on the secondary rights markets (like compliations and commercial jingles).

the pure simple truth is that the media{cd's} that the music industry is relying on is out dated and sales will never go back up. MP3's are what the majority of users are changing over to due to the fact that a player is smaller more compact and goes anywhere anytime. No worries about skipping or sratching cd's no worries about buying a cd with 10songs you don't like to have one song you do.

If he RIAA would embrace the fact that they are dealing with a market that is so out of touch with its users and take steps to bring itself up to speed then maybe they'd see the facts.

1.cd's are crap
2.people want to customize to their tastes
3.people want more than just music now days videos and behind the scenes crap is hot
4.mp3 is the wave of the "now" the future might be diff
5.most of todays recording artist suck and people are getting tired of being force feed crap

Uhhhh...MP3's aren't the way to go for audiophiles. MP3's are very bad quality when compared to CD's. I'd much rather own a CD album and rip the CD using EAC and EasyLame into high-quality MP3's and still have the CD to use with a CDP.

The reason CD sales aren't good has nothing to do with file sharing, at least for me. It's the price. 20 bucks for a plastic disk? It's way overpriced.

well put md1032. i can't stand mp3's in my car (where i have my main audio setup) cause i can hear every little problem with the mp3. so i still prefer real cd's too (whenever i'm tuning my system i never use a burned cd).

points 1 and 5 from richeemex is the main reason i do not buy very many cd's (and when i do they are rarely RIAA affiliated).

true mp3's are the way to go for true audiophiles but true audiophiles don't make-up the mass portion of the market. My basic point is that the majority of listeners have gone to mp3's due to the ease of use factor and total overall costs. Instsead of 10 cd's with 130songs and maybe 10-15 songs you like you can dl/burn to mp3 what you want and use a player or now most car audio comes mp3 compatible.

But one thing from my pov is that cd's will be out within the near future. The music industry will need to swap over to dvd's or go to some sort of dl'able format and give listeners better quality music as well as more content. I think we wil probably see more dvds marketed with music videos as well as some behind the scenes/making of type stuff

I've gone MP3 mainly. If I like a song I download I go find the CD at the used CD places. Even if I never use the CD, the industry can't do jack to me as I have a legit CD with the song I like.

Agree completely with MD1032.
Although I DO BUY a lot of cd's, the bands that I listen to always produce cheap cd's.
For instance, I just bought The Early November's New cd and it came with a bonus DVD for only $12.

MP3's are good to have on the road or if you travel much (you don't waste much on batteries on most players) but for true and highest def. sound, definitely the cd can't be beat ... unless they make a Vynil portable player again (I had one of those but it broke long ago!! ).
