Recent news reports have centered around information that didn't get publicized in the 2000 race, namely, that Bush was AWOL for a year when he was with the Texas Nat'l Guard.
From all accounts, Bush did not report for duty for a year. However, I think these news reports are missing the real story - the privilege bestowed Mr. Bush due to his family connections. Anyone else that scored as poorly on tests as Mr. Bush did would not have been allow to be a flier. Yet, he jumped ahead of more qualified applicants – meaning that someone else more qualified but less connected was sent to Vietnam in his place. Any other cadet certainly wouldn’t have been thrown in the brig for disappearing for a year. Yet, Bush was allowed to transfer to Alabama to work on a political campaign and given an honorable discharge.

There a point to this? Clinton skipped the draft. Keep diggin up the dirt, hopefully there will be a hole big enough to throw you in.

I bring it up because Bush ingratiates himself as having superior moral character. We need to evaluate his character and the moral decisions he’s made in his life. Because he used his dad’s connections to get a spot in the much in demand Texas National Guard – a place his application grade would not have secured, somebody else did his tour in Vietnam. Did he lose sleep over that choice? I don't think so.
Since Clinton is not running for president, his military record is a moot point. Moreover, Clinton did not wrap himself in the military flag.

agreed, we should consider the decisions made by all who desire a place of power. Again I agree that Bush is no angel. But he is the lesser of two evils, and thus will have my vote. |

I believe character is not what you have done but what you do.
What you do as a young man is not who you are.
Does bush still drink and drive?
Sometimes someones history may point at their future or present. But thus far I have not seen anything that would make me think he is following the old patterns.
If you want to consider history then kick bird out of your party and about 90% of your other congressmen of democrat persuasion.
The past indicates what to possibly watch for. The present is where you should look. |

The difference is repenting. Byrd has addressed his past, made it public, admitted he was wrong and apologized. Bush has done nothing but hide and cloud his past. |
