MULTI BOOT LOADER

Hello ppl. i am new to linux and i thought id get a bit of advice before i started messing with my machine. i am planning on installing suse pro 9.0 but i ve currently got 2 os's installed so i need to install a multi boot loader but i want to install one that will allow me to chose between the three os's (win xp, win xp and suse) at start up. i was gona install grub but i am not totaly sure if i can install it and still chose to go to windows from boot up. thnax for any advice in advanced.

it should offer the choices of which os to boot during install lilo or grub both do this. if you are not sure, then you can install your bootloader (or was it the mbr?) to a floppy, leave the harddrive mbr as is, and boot linux by powering up with the floppy in the drive.

You can also put the linux bootloader on the first of the linux /boot partition and just point to everything with XOSL.

Quick and dirty.

thanx for all your advice. ive installed suse and it came with grub so i can boot to linux and windows. but when i boot in to linux it all boots up fine until its finished mounting drives and stuff then i get a blue screen which is slightly scrambled and it dosnt do anything after that. any one know how i can fix this any advice would be much apreciated.

That sounds like a bad X configuration.

If you hit "e" at the grub bootloader, you can change things around at boot time. Just edit the fist line of the linux conf by adding "single" to the end of it. Then it will boot into single user mode(without X).

Once the prompt comes up, type Xconfigurator and follow the directions again.

thanx for the advice will give it a try and if it dont work i might just install suse from scratch and see if it sorts the problem out that way cos i installed it at 2am and i was half a asleep so i think i might have configured a few things wrong.
