    write_intr error message

So I get a hda: write_intr error message on my Fedora Core 1 box when copying files from my windows PC to the samba shared drive on the linux box.

I'm assuming that means my drive hda is going down. Fair assumption?

You could always download and run the manufacturer's non destructive hard drive tests on it overnight and see if that is indeed the problem...

I think this is an old Seagate 6.0 gig.... think they have a drive test utility that'll run on Linux?

OK, I reduced the size of my volume group to drop the hda2 volume. Dropped the hda2 from the volume group and now it's up and running with my volumegroup reduced by about 4 gigs. Unfortunatly, my system resides on hda1. Think I was just running into bad sectors on hda2, or is the whole disk going bad?

well the manufacturer floppy doesnt require an OS, it loads a minimal copy of drdos (or some other small floppy based OS) for their own program to test

i'd say backup any important data and prepare for the worse :/
