PearPC and OSX install (Linux)

Hey, I've got a copy of OSX that I picked up on the cheap from a thrift store (?!) of all places and I'm trying to install using PearPC on my AthlonXP.

Well, I've gotten PearPC compiled/configured etc, but the issue is partitioning my virtual hard disk. Apparently it's a known issue that using the OSX install disk's utility doesn't work, but the workaround is to download Darwin and use it to partition the disk, then install OSX.

That seems a bit like sandblasting a soup cracker, and I don't have the bandwidth for it.

Is there an alternative way to partition this disk?

you might be able to use a linux distro to partition it. Usually they support a lot of different filesystems. What filesystem does OS X use again? UFS? i should know this but it's escaping me at the moment.

It uses UFS within a big file I call pearpc-3gib.img.

I tried partitioning with the built in disk manager and at some point toward the end of the install it just craps out and won't boot into it when I try saying "can't open bootfile" if I comment out my OSX install CD.

I know that linux supports UFS, so you could use a live eval cd (like knoppix or suse) and partition the drive first, since the built in doesn't seem to want to work.
