SO it's seems I'm not the only one that gets stumped with learning about Linux. The main
problem was how to get 98SE running with Linux on a second drive without installing Grub
to the system's primary XP drive even though that has the capacity to store the bulk of the
Linux distros downloaded so far. Ubuntu's floppy boot manager allows booting any partition
detected despite the OS installs on one or more drive. Will it load a Grub4Dos loader when
the 98/Linux drive is choosen is another thought. When the Legacy version hid the 98 and
XP partitions they couldn't be reversed since the Grub prompt didn't reappear when restart
of the system brought Core 4 back up. The WD "dlg.exe" backup/restore mbr utilty saved a
XP primary along with an install to repair. What some didn't gather at the Linux forum was
the need to be able to boot the XP drive as a stand alone drive while still running Linux with
98 on the second. It presents a slight challenge as you have already gathered.
Fortunately 98 got back on the second drive and awaits some Linux introduction. The issue
now is 98 has no sound. The current Audigy 4 Pro has no drivers for 98. Hopefully, Linux is
one source when the free distros go on along with Core 4 in the next attempt. How do play
multimedia without sound? Finding a Linux driver site is next.
