Novell linux desktop v9 powered by Suse Linux

I recieved a complimentary 3 cd set in the mail and would like to install as a dual boot system. my system is raid 0. will I need special drivers? Where can I find detailed instalation instructions? The documentation just says back up your data "or" create a seperate partition, boot from cd and follow the prompts. Will this version create it's own partition?

Yes, Novell Linux is mostly SUSE and can partition and set up dual boot automatically if there is another OS present.

............... assuming you have enough free space available for it to create partitions. My guess is that you've used it all up with windoze ?

I have about 80 gigabytes available. I'm concerned about the raid 0.

backing up your data is a very good idea!

backing up your data is a very good idea!

(you see I wrote that twice on purpose)

RAID 0 (as you know) has no fault tolerance anyway (Linux partitioning or not), so if your disk data becomes corrupt you are basically screwed.

Now in proposing to install Linux you are talking about repartitioning of the drives, or at very least, installing Linux onto an existing partition...

The safer suggestion would be a Linux dedicated hard disk run separate from the RAID.

very nice system you got there, only thing I saw that might be a little difficult was the video setup - a lot of people have difficulty with the ATI accellerated drivers, and from what I've read (second hand) Linux does not always play nice with two video adapters installed

that doesn't sound right to me. You can easily select which display adapter to use in the Xconfig. I would see no conflicts module wise (unless the 2 cards used the same module possibly...but I don't know enough about how that would be handled to comment properly). If anyone wants to donate a cheapo PCI video card I would be happy to test it out Or if I get un-lazy I will pop an AGP card in my Mythbox to see how it works with the onboard video (both would use the nvidia module). I can't forsee any issues as the adapter is chosen in the X config file.

i think if you know how to set up the x config file you can pretty much use as many different cards/monitors as you want. issues would come up with 3d acceleration though.

i've set it up with a riva tnt2 (agp) and a geforce mx440se (pci) with two monitors and xinerama (one big desktop). at first i could even play a game just fine on one screen on the mx440se, while being able to move the mouse over to the desktop on the other monitor, but then i dont know what i did but that broke and the game stretched to both screens, which the tnt2 couldn't handle.
