| File sharing in Mandrake ?
Ok...I have 2 machines both running Mandrake 10.1.
I have them set up to share the first machines internet through a hub. Currently the internet connection sharing works great. Now, how do I enable file sharing on both machines? |

If they are both Linux, the native answer is NFS. Samba will work, but it is not really the "best" answer.

first you need to make sure you have the samba packages installed. Installing SWAT (Samba Web Administration Tool) is also helpful. Both of these can be installed by the package installation thing.
Then goto the mandrake control panel, system --> services, and start the SWAT service
I think the link is then http://localhost:901
This lets you adminiter SAMBA easily...
As SJ said... SAMBA isn't really the best choice if you aren't going to be sharing with any windows machines.
Alternatively you should setup an FTP server and firewall it from outside access |

ftp would work, but IMO, not a real good option for file sharing.
You have to log in and soforth. With NFS and Samba it uses your login and actually mounts it, which makes it alot easier to use. |

Note, that with the exception of FTP, all of these options can seem a bit daunting to setup, that's just how Linux is. Once you get used to it, it's not that bad.
Just take a deep breath and start into it. After the first few times, it gets much easier. |

Mandrake's control panel has GUI stuff for setting up NFS... although Ive never personally tried it, a simple setup should be pretty straight-foward |
