Ubuntu issues

I recently installed kUbuntu 5.10 and there seems to be some issues...

one thing i noticed is that konqueror will not play sound files on pages. (ex. ytmnd.com) Sound is working, it did detect my soundblaster and i can play various sounds all over the os, just not in a konqueror or firefox.

Another thing is, i cannot browse my ntfs partitions. I am using a dual boot system with windows xp and kUbuntu. I know when i had mandrake 10 installed, it could read and write to ntfs partitions just fine.

For some reason, i cant run anything. It all opens as read only because im not using root? I didint have this when i installed it yesterday ( installed ubuntu, deleted ubuntu, installed mandrake, deleted mandrake, reinstalled ubuntu.)

This thread will probably be updated frequently because ill have plenty of questions and things going awry.

are you sure Mandrake 10 could write to your NTFS partition?

if you have the ntfs file system support then all you probably need is anentry in /etc/fstab with the proper permissions

or you try as root $mount -t ntfs /dev/hda(some partition) /mnt/(myfolderformswindows)

Mandrake 10 was NOT writing to your NTFS partition out of the box. The only way you could do that would be to compile in NTFS write support yourself, and even then you will probably end up just corrupting your NTFS partition.

NTFS write support has made progress recently but it still is not stable enought that ANY distribution is going to include write support by default.
