Well i dont have a huge hard drive in it so i want to SMB over to my windows drive and use the songs stored there and pictures and stuff..
The devices place i was talking about was in the konquorer browser thing in KDE.. I will giev the mounting thing a shot
sound is the only thing i gotta figure out, maybe i should use another sound card, will it automatically recognize a new one and configure it?

| I think you're confused. You don't use lisa to connect, you use samba. Also samba is not a process or program that runs, it's a protocol. What I meant to ask was: why are you trying to use lisa instead of samba?
To access your windows share (note, you have to share a folder/drive), you enter "smb://<computer name or ip>/<share name>" in the location bar in konqueror to access your other machine. |

ignore the lan browser...lan browser's don't usually work in windows, much less in linux.
it's much better to do a direct connection via the method i described above. |

I second Ubuntu. Although Kubuntu is a little top-heavy. I found the native Gnome desktop just fine.
Great distro and great user forums...!

I got an extra comp i use for some children that come over time to time. Basically it's exact to yours but i got the diamond viper video card and a 40 gig harddrive.
I use knoppix 5 live cd and it works like a champ. I also like pclinuxos.
There's also a dvd version of knoppix thats pretty much loaded. Give it a try. |

My three favorites are these. I usually look for the dvd versions because it just makes life a whole lot easier.
Sabayon 3.26 DVD http://www.sabayonlinux.org/
Does takes a little long to load up but seems to find every single device in all the computers I have tried it on. This comes with the 3d desktop beryl which is kinda neat to use . I actually found I rely on it and miss it while using Windows.
What I can say about this livedvd version is that it is full of great programs.
If anyone here is reading this and never tried it yet you are certainly missing out.
My all time favorite and might hold the crown for me for quite some time.
PCLinuxOS 2007 test release 2 http://www.pclinuxos.com/page.php?7
Well nothing but the essentials that you desire plus the 3d desktop beryl.
I also like that this OS finds all my drivers. Is fast and has some great looks to it. Should not need to fiddle with anything. This is a Live cd version.
Knoppix Version 5.1.1 DVD http://www.club.cc.cmu.edu/pub/knoppix-dvd/
Seems to function like above but more AOL'ish to me. Ha Ha
Still a great package here and plenty of programs and drivers that work loaded.
Just to let you know I tried just about every major linux distribution out there and whatever else caught my eye. These to me are the best 3 ever.

Try Xubuntu (KDE and Gnome could run pretty slow on your system), it's Ubuntu with Xfce. Or try DSL with the hard drive install or Vector Linux.
I have Vector running on my Cel 500 system. Runs very well, it uses Xfce as well, a nice lightweight GUI that doesn't ask for much in system resources to run well.
