I can't find vi in the programs list to open it with...so I tried "vi /ect/phpmyadmin/config.inc.php" in the console...and it comes up with a bunch of squiglys...like this:
~
~
~
~
~
~
...etc... |

Just for clarification for everyone trying to help, ubuntu is a little different than most distros. It doesnt use "su" in the conventional way to gain access to the root account. Everything is done through "sudo" (and its automatically setup for the user upon install)
Try
"sudo gedit /etc/phpmyadmin/config.inc.php" |

Weird...when I do that, it comes up with a blank screen.
Something can't be right...because when I try to chown it back to the root user, it says "no such file or directory" |

Are you sure the file even exists at that path? |

Yep, if I browse to it, I can open it up by double clicking it...and then it works fine(it just doesn't let me save). |

Cool, I will use that.
No idea on why its being weird on me with the config.inc.php then eh?
I think I can just leave it...under the user, it still has root, and the login type is config...I would like to set it to the real user(I deleted root from the permissions in phpmyadmin)...and I would like to use HTTP...but its fine I think... |
