    Knoppix 5

this is being posted from Knoppix 5

easy boot - hardware recognized - lan network autodetected -so far so good

Knoppix 5 is supposed to have transparent NTFS write support so I will have to boot on a systems with Windows to check it out.

    NTFS write support does work!

we booted Knoppix on a WinXP system and were able to write to NTFS partition, however we had to go to the device tab of the icon on the KDE desktop and uncheck 'read only' before mounting the NTFS partition.

Knoppix should now be a very powerful tool for rescuing systems

Very cool. If your system is trashed then this sounds like a good CD to have.

Awesome thanks for the report on the NTFS writing. I know this has also been an drawback for linux now if they can incorporate that into the other distros we can start moving along.

Not much of a drawback for an installed distro IMO. There is an ext driver for windows, so you can keep all your documents on your linux /home partition. Not much reason, typically, to write to your windows partition if your documents are elswhere.

This is awesome for a rescue CD though.
