more packages in Ubuntu

I just installed Ubuntu 6.06 the DVD version for AMD64 on my computer... It works great except for the fact there are barely and programs that installed when i hit the Install off of the Live CD.... I downloaded the DVD version because i thought that it would have many more packages than just the CD version, does it? Do they just not install everything by default? I also noticed that just about all video files wont play with Ubuntu's basic movie player..

How do i use the DVD and install the rest of the packages in one big lump sum or whatever ?

go to /etc/apt

edit sources.list

remove # from anything with deb

then do an apt-get update

presto more packages

(i also suggest you comment out the first two lines as those are for your cdrom, it gets annoying when it keeps asking for you cd)

Check out this webpage for your dvd question

what exactly does the deb mean? soo i can eliminate the # and just do an apt-get and i will get things like mplayer and all the stuff that should be on the DVD? or is there a graphical way to do this?

Will check the link in a few (when i get to a faster connection than dialup) to see what goodies it has in store for me

Debian uses deb packages for apt-get. Think of it as sort of a RPM

as for your apt-get question
