Hahaha, my friend AznPoolPro has Vista and has a bunch of problems with it. He's amazed at Vista's eyecandy, but he wasn't blown away by Beryl's stuff. I bet he's just bluffing. DEEP INSIDE OF HIM HE'S JEALOUS.

    Wow...

Because you know, Aero is the only thing new in Vista and it's the only reason people want it.

exactly. when winXP came out and the eye candy was new and cool, it lasted about 5 minutes on my machine. that's equal to the amount of time it took me to go "ooh" and then set it to windows classic. Beryl does look extremely cool, but the only part of it I would actually use on a daily basis is the cube. The ability to have 4 desktops worth of screens open can come in handy, but Vista does basically the same thing with the task switch prompt. clean and simple ftw. less time on visuals, and more on making decent apps, please.
    Good job, friend-of-friends!

For me I really fail to see how the "cube" in Beryl is in any way superior to traditional multiple desktops. At least you can hotkey each desktop normally, but with the cube, last I checked, you couldn't even do that, just iterate from one to the next.

Other than that it is all eye candy which goes adios on my machine unless it is directly contributing to my productivity.

On beryl, I turn off every effect except the following:

-The expose clone (probably the most useful feature)
-The minimize animation (makes it easier to find where the window is in the task tray)
    -Alt-tab thumbnails (duh)
-I set the slide/expand animation on menus, as it seems more intuitive.
-The cube... I turn it on for the unwrap feature only. CTRL+ALT+UP: it's like expose except it gives you the context of window organization.

Everything else, the wobbling, the fire, transparencies... all that stuff goes OFF.

I like using sabayon just for beryll.

Man I love the ability to click on a few movie links and stream them.
Then just watch each one on the cube as i go.

Or back to a certain part of the cube just by clicking in the taskbar.

How can anyone stand to look at windows classic? Ugggh

Once you start using the classic look, I don't think you will really want to go back.

Classic works perfectly fine for the most part (though, I don't use classic...I use the non-aero vista theme)

On XP Ive always used the classic Start Menu.

Eye Candy is nice if it actually has a purpose.
I use the Apple-style desktop icon bar, which auto-hides into the top of my screen. IMO, its a plus becuase its out of the way, removes all icons from the desktop, but can quickly be accessed with a mouse movement. And did I mention it looks good.

OS like blackbox are popular for a reason.

    Me neither.

I used to upgrade and download loads of themes for my XP; Beryl, Crystal and everything. But at one time, I get pretty tired with all those.

So, my pick would be the classic and simple theme ones. To me, it looks appealing
