At least with Linux, no one claims that they can tell me what I can do with my OS once I've paid for it... Nor can they stop my use of it by remote control like M$ can. Just wait until some cracker figures that one out! I'll be laughing my a55 off.

You'll get 2D on your ATI card really easily (most likely automatically depending on your distro). 3D is what sucks hard with ATI's Linux drivers. If you're not into gaming and you don't want something like compiz or beryl, the 2D drivers should work fine.
I've been using Linux on my desktop for the past 3 or 4 years. It has improved dramatically. Just go into it knowing that it isn't Windows and it won't act like Windows. |

I am MUCH more productive in linux and than I am in windows. Quite frankly I can't stand coding in windows, and the lack of a good terminal drives me nuts.
Linux is not intrinsically lacking as a desktop - it is just different from windows.
IMO Linux is perfectly capable for the majority of users on the desktop, certainly on the server end, and the only area where it often lacks is in design / engineering where there simply aren't replacements for industry specific commercial applications.
That said, I have 3 computers - 2 of which run linux, and the other I leave in windows for gaming.

Well, my only argument of why 80% of the worlds computers run on windows is because it is easier for a begin'r to use and start up. More people are more efficient on windows because that's all they know. They have never been exposed to linux. Most of them have never even heard of it. It's easier to mass produce a software that supports everything known to man, rather then just have what software your machine needs, and nothing else. There are some packages that are a little too excessive i admit, but for the most part and if you know what your doing you don't have any extra junk that you don't need.
Plus it's alot easier to get in a terminal and go to town rather then put up with all prompts and warnings and whatnot.
Thanks for your time.... |

ok, so then by your defination, it does not blow Windows out of the water. Again, if it was THAT much better and lets not forget, free, people would have made the switch.
We already know that people HATE spending money if they don't have to. When they'd rather spend their hard earned money than use a FREE OS, that suggests it is not as good, for whatever reason. |

| I love KDE. I think KDE is awesome. For this reason, I think Linux blows Windows out of the water. That and I love to tweak and tinker. And I love free stuff.
Yep, to me, there is no comparison, Linux is just the best.
