    Linux and multiple monitors?

I am looking into running Linux.. not sure which distro but maybe Open Suse.

    I am wondering.. right now I have Vista and 3 monitors. 2 video cards (a 7800GT and a 6600GT) both PCI-e.

Would I be able to run 3-4 Nvidia based monitors under Linux?

    Thanks

You can...but you probably wont have fun trying to set it up.

Just make sure you know how to repair the X conf via terminal before you try it, because I can guarantee you will make the OS unbootable at least once.

The OS won't become unbootable, X will simply not start and drop you back to a console.

So as a precaution, get a single monitor up and running and save that conf file. Anytime you jack it up too bad, just copy that file back over and startx.

That being said it really isn't that complicated once you get a few things down. There are some good tutorials out there. Once you go to set it up post back here and I will be happy to point you to the resources or give you any assistance you need.

    Sounds great..

    thanks for your help jkrohn..

oh and is open Suse a good choice and does it have good support of Nvidia mulitple monitors?

(I know I will have to download the Nvidia drivers but thought maybe they are integrating some basic Nvidia drivers into it now).

I already have the 10.2 DVD distro already.

Well, it is here when I try it...

When I mess it up Ubuntu just doesn't boot(I have to do whatever it was to boot to console to actually get to the console).

Just press Ctl-Alt f2-f6 to switch to one of your other virtual TTYs and you should be fine.
