about Linux and gaming/ Ya I suppose I keep thinking they will figure that out. I would like to try Linux maybe for an internet and Office set up and load it with my XP pro for gaming only maybe I could have some peace and have a stable gaming set up on XP pro.
Just wondered who knows about this version? Is it worth buying?Powered by area 51 Alien technology

No, don't pay for that.
If you want to give Linux a shot try Kubuntu."The problem with quotations on the internet is that the sources are hard to verify" - Abraham Lincoln

Give Mepis a look while you're at it. Mepis is my current favorite. It to is a live CD that you can test with your hardware before installing.

if your just looking to download distros there are many sites just a click away (google) that you can download them from... As for "traditional" windows gaming on a linux machine, its hard... check out Cedega if thats what your looking for.
If not just browse the many linux distrobutions, with many well known names such as SuSe, Mandriva, Fedora, Ubuntu, Mepis, Debian, and some newer ones like PCLinuxOS have been making big strides in the right direction
Mobile: Thinkpad T61 | WinXP Pro | C2D T8300 CPU | 3GB DDR2 | 320GB Hybrid SSD HDD | AGN & WWAN
Desktop: Dell XPS 8300 | 3.4 Ghz Intel i7 | 8GB DDR3 | 1TB OS, 1.5TB Mirrored DATA

I found Kubuntu stable but in need of help like no sound from myu soundblaster live card ,easy internet access. Havent done much else with it, ShuckyD I tryed the PCLinuxOS and it was slower(but running off the CD daa) it blew me away with sound quality and seemed to have some nice touchs(resembles windows) lots of features) I tryed adjusting the display from 800/600 up a notch and wow it started messing up ,never could get it back down to 800/600 just rebooted and havent played with it much again.
I am gonna try Mephis & Unbunto this time. Man Linux has came a long way! It just looks like for some real brains and money to perfect it ,someone could make some money,I would pay reasonable money for a new OS not geared at world domination
.
my knowledge is low to medium about linux or software for that. I am on a medium to high on hardware. So I ask alot of questions. And as always Techimo is the best for knowledge and sharing thoughts.
All you old dos people probably find Linux a breeze.Last edited by lone1dog; May 18th, 2007 at 07:45 PM.

My 3 favorites in a live cd or dvd
http://www.sabayonlinux.org/
http://www.pclinuxos.com/
http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Syste...DVD-2621.shtml
I usually go for the DVD versions because usually has more drivers and all the applications that are already loaded.
Sabayon always has some sweet games like quake4 demo,ut2004 demo,Sauerbraten - aka Cube 2 - and Battle of Wesnoth. Depends on the version.
Has the 3d cube that works upon install without configuring it. Has some advanced 3d unlike most other linux.
Can read more in detail here:

Sabayon is 1 dvd, apache limits it's files to 2 gig. There is more likely more sources with a single dvd version.
That one you are getting you must combine them after get the 2 parts.
I usually search for the full iso by http.

Here is version 3.4 loop1 of sabayon. There is a loop2b version later than this but can only be downloaded by torrent at the present time.

NOTE: Due to apache limitations on filesize (2GB) -- the 3.3GB DVD ISO above is split into two peices. To recombine:
cat SabayonLinux-x86-3.3-PartA.iso SabayonLinux-x86-3.3-PartB.iso >> SabayonLinux-x86-3.3.iso
In Windows use a utility such as those found http://portablefreeware.com/?q=split&p=1
OK so you got that far. I do see a unite button up top. Should be able to associate both files and name it to a completed file.
I never used it personally, just from what I read.
Here's something else might want to give a go, SAM-2007

I used Fedora before, Seems more like a business solution, I do not believe is a livecd version. It seemed no better to me than any newer linux out there.
As for the partitions, say you pop a live cd in, there is usually an Install to Drive shortcut on the desktop. If use that it creates whats called a Grub bootloader.
I would read up on whichever linux version you are using and read up on it.
Yes many hose their windows installs when trying to do this because they do the wrong options. Grub is also a pain to remove and fix your windows so grub is totally gone.
I suggest if want Linux on a harddrive then add a 2nd drive to Install Linux on to, seriously. Or be happy using the live cd and dvd's.
