    Ubuntu Failed X Server

I just installed Ubuntu via Wubi on my Dell E1505 and got an error it states:
"Failed to start the x server (your graphical interface). It is likely it is not set up correctly."
I searched the web and got some result, most people with this problem said that entering "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" or manualy editing the /etc/X11/xorg.conf would solve the problem, however I do not know how/where to type the command or how/where locate the xorg.conf file.
These are the specs of my machine:
Intel Core Duo 1.83 GHz CPU
    100GB HDD
    2GB RAM
    ATI x1400 256MB GPU
    Windows XP Media Center
    Any help is appreciated.

What verison of Ubuntu did you install?

unfortunately to this day ATI and Linux still have crappy driver support

I suggest you do an apt-get update then an apt-get upgrade to see if the latest updates will fix your issue.

I'm not sure what version it was, whatever version that Wubi downloaded. I think to get to terminal I had to press ctrl-alt-F1 which I didn't do but right now I am downloading version 7.04 and having Wubi install that version instead of the one that was downloaded. I uninstalled it thinking it woudn't work but I think I may give it another shot.
Thanks for everyones help thus far.
