VPC is intended for MS OS's mainly, I was able to get Mandrake 9 barely to load, awhile back using the old VPC 2004 version, loaded up, but the screen was all garbled & distorted, damn near impossible to read, so left that idea out.
maybe check with VMware, for the VM player, download & run that, see if they have a ubuntu install to download & run using that?
like this one http://www.vmware.com/appliances/directory/975
or just search here for others? http://www.vmware.com/appliances/
