KDE 4.0 Released!

The new version of KDE that has been in development for the last few
years was released last week:
http://www.kde.org/announcements/4.0/

Very excited! I've been using it for a few days now (currently posting from Konqueror 4). It's still a little incomplete, but it works and it's gorgeous.
Packages are available for Kubuntu hardy and gutsy, as well as for OpenSuSE and other distributions. One of the new features is that it is cross platform, so there will soon be MS Windows installers for some of the software as well.

Disclaimer: while this is an actual release, it's still bleeding edge software, so I wouldn't recommend you install it if you don't know how to fix a broken system. However, there is a Live-CD you can try.

I tried it. Worked for about 15 minutes. Apparently I enabled some alpha blending it couldn't do and I lost my desktop.

Wasn't real impressed with it overall. One thing I did like was the new Dolphin browser. Having the side-by-side panes for file handling is really nice.
