Installing Ubuntu with Vista

Hi guys,
I have a Fujitsu Siemens laptop that came with two partitions on the hardrive one system one data. I only use the system partion though and the Data one is empty apart from two folders. Logs3 and Temp. The temp folder is empty and the log3 folder has some sort of BBC Iplayer log in it. Ive check in view hidden files and folders and theres nothing else on the DATA partition.

So my question is can I format the Data partition and install Linux on it, its 45gb and appears unused. My only worry is maybe they are storing some sort of recovery information on there but I did get a recovery disc with the PC.

Also does anyone have any good guides on how to dual boot Linux and Vista ?

Thank You

Just backup all your data from the system partition with Windows before you begin.

You should be able to install Ubuntu without any issues on the data partition and it *should* take care of setting up grub for dual booting. But you might want to read up on dual booting a bit first.
