Windows vista or Ubuntu?
If you had a choice what would you choose? I would choose Ubuntu because its customizable and unlike Vista it doesn't have many problems when you know how to use it.

If I wanted to spend a week getting my PC to work correctly with all of my hardware, well, hell no, still not Ubuntu.

Ubuntu for me, as I don't game much anymore.
And, the games I do play are native to Linux.

Dual Boot and have the best of both worlds
-

I agree dual booting helps a whole bunch, if you get a virus on Windows Vista and can't get rid of it through there, then go into Ubuntu(or any type of Linux) and delete it from there. Anyways it looks like Ubuntu is winning so far. Also another reason I didn't pick Windows Vista is because it needs 512mb of ram more than Windows XP, so if you have 3gb or more of ram then go ahead, but for the people like me who only have 512mb of ram we like to stick with Ubuntu, or Windows XP. At the moment people are starting to think maybe there service packs will fix this, but for the moment Ubuntu all the way!

I think the question is unfair and biased towards Windows when asked in the general format that it was presented.
A much more accurate question would involve a persons level of computing experience and whether or not they use a computer for their job in regards to which os they prefer.
For the most part people will always pick drag and drop/plug and play over anything they seemingly have to battle regardless of security when it does not involve their livelihood.

Well so far it doesn't seem to have affected the results. We're 50/50 on the poll - I forgot to vote before.

Personally I don’t think you can even compare these two operating systems seeing to me at least, they are totally different and one would be better over the other in certain situations! If someone told me they had a very low end system I would suggest Linux. If they are familiar with xp and want something fresh I suggest vista home premium to people.
Just my 2 cents

It is hard to compare, it's more of a personal preference thing. I love using Debian Linux because it's fast, even on older hardware and very easy to update and install new software via the central software repositories, instead of hunting on the Internet for the program you want, you search the repositories and install direct from them.
Also with Linux you have a much lower risk of virus infection simply because Windows viruses can't infect Linux and there aren't very many Linux viruses created.
Since switching to Debian last year, I hate having to hunt for a program on the Internet with Windows.

I agree with everyone that there is advantages and disadvantages, but yet I still choose Ubuntu because Vista is full of errors, and for Ubuntu there are still numbers of games that will work for it and a product called Wine that can be used for many games Like Counter Strike Source and most of the steam games

Vista is full of errors? Have you ever used Vista?

yes I have and I have a whole bunch of problems with stuff like modding games, installing some games, restarting the computer with programs like steam opened will crash it sometimes. and the countless other errors I keep on coming over so I downgraded to XP and dual booted to Ubuntu.

Sorry Videoman, I don't buy the Vista versus crashing steam angle. I and about 20 of my cohorts crash just fine with steam on XP. Steam is the only program that has ever consistently blue screened either of my two XP computers.

I boot off both.
I vote Vista if I had to pick one.
Ubuntu is good for novelty value, but I do alot of 3D modeling and animation as well as other multimedia development and gaming. Ubuntu has had as many problems as Vista for me (sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, drivers, so on). I prefer the one that lets me do the most in while Ubuntu has Compviz fusion, which is epic. It's good for Office Apps but not for development. At least for me.

Ubuntu all the way. Just installed Linux Mint (based on ubuntu) on a computer where Vista effed up the partition table every time it shut down, and XP couldn't even see the hard disk to install.

It really depends on the circumstances and the application you will use, I would chose Ubuntu for a Laptop and Vista for a desktop because, Linux uses less space giving you more room for music on my laptop, and vista so i can play games

Personally, ive used Ubuntu and i did not like the UI in the least. I also do not like the fact that changing it requires massive time and a walk through as epic as a FF game.
I have always been primarily a Windows user but i have used a Mac for school and personal use. At work i dabbled with Ubuntu but found that although easy enough to get certain tasks done, it required more effort then i was willing to put into it to get what i wanted out of it. Call it ignorance because i fall back on what i know the best, windows.
Personally, I think Vista is a great OS, plenty of Features and not alot of the hassel of some. The learning curve, coming from XP, is small and I have used it occasionally on some of my trainings. I for one plan on using either Home Premium or Ultimate as my next OS of choice.
