Linux server not working right

Well I want to try linux server before I use it,so I'm using VMware workstation. The only problem is that when it asks for my password when booting up,It won't let me type anything so I cannot get to try linux server.Im using Ubuntu server by the way.
Can anyone help?

Sometimes for security reasons the password does not appear. Just try typing it and press enter...
