Ubuntu update question

Hi, I am new to Linux and am running Ubuntu 8.10 I get this error report during the update process.

" E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report."

Where do I find the run command prompt. This maybe a simple question but I'm stumped.

go to Applications/Accessories/terminal then type it in there, you'll have to use the sudo command ie. 'sudo dpkg --configure -a'. the sudo command gives you privilages.
the password you have to enter is your own password if you installed the system.
