network configuration problems on Redhat 5

I am unable to configure network ethernet: eth0 on Redhat Linux 5 on HP desktop (64 bit) with RealTek RTL8169/8110 Family Gigabit Ethernet NIC.

In windows, the network is working fine. but
while configuring network in Redhat i.e., Ethernet port, it is giving errors like: Initialization failed..... not found eth0 .

Please help me to sort it out.

Run dmesg | more or the RH equivalent to see if the system see the NIC. I had the same problem with FreeBSD so I bought a USB to Cat5 adapter from Radio Shack.
