linux mint, codename gloria

hi i am new to linux, save for using ubuntu live discs for data recovery and i am told it will make my pc run alot faster, do you think the above mentioned version of linux is a good place to start,
could i get some feedback from anyone who has used linux mint and is there anything i should know before dual booting with windows 7

If someone keeps telling you that you should be using Linux, ask them if they guarantee it will work correctly on your hardware and support all the applications you need without issues (which I can pretty much guarantee it will not).

Desktop Linux is no faster than Windows 7.

Driver support can be a hit and a miss depending on what you have. As for making it run faster, that all depends on a bunch of things

You should install linux because you want to try something new and learn something, not because someone told you it will make your desktop faster
