| Ubuntu 9 and Windows Shares
When I go to "Places, Network" and get the Windows Network icon and double-click on it, all it finds is the "Home" workgroup. I only have one computer on that workgroup (and it's wireless) LOL
All the other computers are in the workgroup "Workgroup" How come I can't see it?
<edit> Ok, all of a sudden I see it (I did a fresh update of Samba <sudo install>) and I get the WORKGROUP icon, but I only see ONE computer on it...THE ONE I"M ON!! ROFL....can't see my file server! Ugh

Nope, just good 'ole Windows firewall. And I can't even go into "Connect to Server" and map a share...weird.
Ok, NOW, it shows up...WTF is that all about? Must be Windoze taking it's time to broadcast that the computer is out there. Go figure

What if you turn off the windows firewall? That can stop it from showing it up a network |

Thanks, that *would* work, but there has got to be something missing. Maybe I need ALL computers on the same workgroup...Ubuntu sees all of the shares on the dang wireless PC without problems...no mapping whatsoever. Why it can't see the ones hardwired 2 feet from it is beyond me right now.
Now, after the reboot, I've lost my file server, but still have the "WORKGROUP" icon. I'm blaming Windows

I never waste time with the windows workgroup bs, I just map out all the drives I need access too.
Did it work after you rebooted your windows machine? |
