    Question Streaming to XBox 360

Is there a distro that will work to stream music and video to the XBox 360?

You will need to use a third party application in linux to stream to the 360

Howto stream music, pictures and movies to an Xbox 360 with Linux « Blog Archive « scramblings

    Another application:

GeeXboX uShare UPnP A/V Media Server HomePage

Windows Media Player 11 built in UPNP (Easiest to setup but does not transcode)

    Tversity

PS3 Media Server (Yes, it will also work with the Xbox360)

    Orb's built in UPNP server

I use PS3 Media Server and Tversity with my PS3. Both provide the best picture quality. I use both because there are some videos that PS3 Media Server can't transcode but Tversity will. However, Tversity transcodes at an extremely slow rate (Barely uses 10% of my CPU when transcoding 1080p content) so every now and then there will be a pause in the video. So I only use Tversity when I have too, otherwise I use PS3 Media Server.

I use orb when I am away from home to watch videos on my cell phone. Orb limits its bandwidth to only 6mbps so it is unable to stream HD content, even over the local network through UPNP.
One by one the penguins steal my sanity.

I use the ps3 media server and its kind of a hit and miss with certain files such as .mkv files but I only have a few of those. I don't use the 360 much to stream video, I mainly use my old xbox to do all my streaming.

Windows Media Player 11, Azureus Vuze, and Windows 7 has a built in media distro built in to it.

Isnt applications such as WM11 and Windows 7 limited on the formats it can play? Azureus Vuze streaming is still in Beta and still seems a bit slow and buggy

Yes, WM11 and Win 7 are limited to what you can do. Yes Vuze is still in beta, but it's never been slow for me. WM11 and Win 7 are very slow for me.
