    Ubuntu on an external

Well, I want to install ubuntu on an external(500gb) hardrive, I want to know if its possible. I'm sure it is, I just don't want to attempt anything without good results.

Also, do you recommend a better open source OS? or is ubuntu by far the best in the terms of user friendly?

You should be able to install it as long as it's mounted and accessible. I've installed it on an external drive and even a 4gb thumb drive. I like it the best and to me it seems the most user friendly but as they say, UMMV....

I'm not being critical here but just wonder if Google isn't the first place people go to find something? I know hearing it from someone who's done it before helps but most of these questions on here, I google them to be sure of my answer and point them to instructions like these. Just curious.

And 90% of the time, this site is in the search results.

I've found most people don't know how easy it is to find info with Google, heck just a lone serial number, usually brings up all you need to know for a device.

With a little more creative search parameters, just about anything can be found in minutes.
