Unhappy Linux? help - first time

I have never used Linux and know nothing about it........I have a Linux based server in front of me and I am trying to get the thing to boot up.....I push the power button and see all kinds of data (looks like DOS mode in Windows) and it finally stops at

    Data login:

If I type something in like "admin" it then displays

    Password:

What do I do next......talked to the owner and he can't rememeber them.......

...is there any way to get the boot sequence to complete?

    ...above this it says:

    CentOS release 4.3 (final)
    Kernel 2.6.9-34.EL on an i686

    Hi hoemee
I've been playing with Linux for years, but now that the graphic interface works just like windows, I forget most of the text based commands.

If it where Windows, you could use any version of Linux live disk, to go in and retrieve the info.

I found this sight, and it looks like 4.3 is the first version of that OS
Maybe use Version 4.4 Live CD.

Knowing how secure Linux is with it's passwords, it might not work.
It can't hurt to try, as I'm sure you know, Live disk runs from the CD, so you won't hurt anything.

Might be worth a try, till someone that really knows Linux posts.
