VM on a Netbook?

Hello all,

I have an HP mini (1GHz single-core Atom with 1GB RAM) that I am looking at using more. I have a macbook pro running Ubuntu already but it is large (2007 15in) and the netbook would be more convenient. I need to run a single VM at a time...probably a Fedora install with either a minimal desktop environment such as LXDE...but may even drop to just a desktop manager instead. Current netbook OS is debian squeeze latest version running XFCE.

So...is there a better host OS to use? Is Fedora too bloated to run in a VM? I would prefer to use it as it is similar to what is used at school/work.

Any suggestions on how to proceed is appreciated

Your atom cpu and 1 GB of ram is gonna be taxed so dont expect the best preformance

I ran Ubuntu on the Dell Mini 10 but yeah, I tried virtualizing a BT session and it dragged like dreck. :/ similar specs on my old dell so I don't think you'll have much luck running anything smoothly like GZ said, and he's the master here at VMware. I ended up booting it from a live USB instead due to the speed problem. Not optimal but the system doesnt come with a CD drive.

Is console only for the virtualized session out? You'll be fine outside of x I should think.
