I wrote a little step-by-step guide with screenshots to illustrate the upgrade process from Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin to 12.10 Quantal Quetzal very precisely.

Your guide worked, but I didn't heed the warning that popped up about the upgrade not fully supporting my video card (I'm using an Intel Atom netbook and apparently Linux support for the video chipset is sketchy at best).

I got it to boot, and I like the look of the new version, but the graphics are in VESA mode and pretty choppy. The font smoothing and overall appearance is pretty, but I recently got hooked on Game of Thrones and I can't keep watching where I left off until I fix it

Looks like I might have to back up and reinstall 12.04. Bummer. Although it might be a good opportunity to go back to a dual-boot setup, as it did come with a windows 7 license and I wouldn't mind playing a few old windows games now.

Gotta get another USB stick and figure out the right order of doing things now.
