| No load when installing Mandrake9.1!!
Hey guys ..
I downloaded and made Mnandrake 9.1 CDs (thanx to crouse )
I tested the CD and it booted automatically in windows ... no problems so far .. the CDs are OK, all three of them ..
When i rebooted the system from the CD drive with Mandrake CD1 in the drive, it detected the CD and greeted me with the screen where i have to press F1 or Enter.
When i press Enter, nothing happens .. the CD spins a little then stops with totally black screen. (i waited for few minutes without any reaction)
When i press F1, type expert then enter, the same thing happens! no CD loading!!
Now do you have any idea about this problem?
PS. i once installed Drake 9.0 on this same machine without problems.
EP-8KHA+/XP1900+/1GB PC2700/Ti4200/80GB Maxtor/Intel NIC ....

Sounds fishy. Did you run the MD5 sums?

I guees as Mike said - try the MD5sums but if the 3 cds are working in windows it does sound odd
I wonder if it might be
a) PNP in the bios needs disabling
b) a framebuffer issue with the Geforce 4200
(admit I'm fishing with b) - I'll keep thinking - yesterday was a rainy hanami down here, so understand if it takes some time.... |

Yes Mike
I tested the ISOs before burning with md5summer (md5v11024), it stated that they were OK.
After burning i put the CDin my drive and it loads fine in windows .. i can explore the CD and it seems fine to me ..
What do you think?
Should i burn once again?
Edit> PnP is enabled in my BIOS, but i remember when i installed Mandrake9.0 last Oct., the setup went fine even that PnP was enabled.
I will try to disable it though .. thanx for the suggestion |

Could be a bad burn but I was also thinking about what the jester mentioned. Could be a video issue. You already have PNP disabled in you BIOS from when you did your 9.0 install don't you? |

I re-burned the ISO CD1 only, and this time i used the option *Disk at once* by Nero.
I will try again, and then i will try the CD2 trick .. thanx Mike
BTW, PnP was/still Disabled .. .. i just checked that minutes ago .. |

KenKun, do you still have your 9.0 disks? Can you boot to them? Might tell us something.
Good luck . . . time for bed. I'll check back in the morning.

I'm quite glad I haven't put 9.1 pon any systems. They have rushed it a bit IMO to keep up with RH, but they used an alpha-stage kernel (2.4.21) which by its very nature is unstable.
