ATI Radeon 9600 Pro - Red Hat 9

Well, here I am needing help again... please forgive my Linux ignorance... I'm still pretty green =)

I just finished putting together my new box and installing Red Hat 9 on it. It picked up my video card as being 'VESA Card (generic)'. So, pretty much, I'm just needing help getting the right drivers installed for my card.

I went to ATI's site yesterday, picked my X version from the list, and downloaded the new rpm for my ATI Radeon 9600 Pro... I ran the package and restarted my machine, but when it came up it said that X couldn't be started, and asked me if I wanted to run the configuration utility to try to fix the problem. That's when I tried the 9500 Pro drivers... same thing happened with them... I ended up just changing it back to the VESA generic drivers, which is what I'm using right now to post this plea for help =)

I've been doing a little Googling, but haven't turned up much yet. I've been reading other similar posts by other people, but no solutions for the 9600 Pro... perhaps I haven't looked long enough yet though.

Let me know if there's any other info I need to post.

Any help would be most appreciated =)

Thanks,
Kaziah

Well they are two factors getting the ATI drivers to work...
1. Mainboard, the nforce2 need to install first a patch to fix the Agpgart to work with the ATI card.
2. Then Install the RPM from ATI, and build the kernel module, and run fglrxconfig

I have a pretty good how to that can be handy is for Mandrake 9.1 but im sure it will work on your Red Hat system pretty well.
