linux doesn't like radeon 9600pro?

Question
linux doesn't like radeon 9600pro?

when i went to try out redhat the 9600 wasn't on the list of cards and i had to select generic just to get it to work. suse 8.1 wont even install (goes to black screen).

To get it to work you have to download and install the drivers from ATI.

Yeah. I just use the VESA generic drivers to have a gui. Then you can download the drivers at the ATi site. READ The instructions and follow them closely and you will have your card up and running in no time.!

go init 3 before installing the driver..... keep in hand the refresh rates of your monitor.....

If you are using a kernel version before 2.4.21 and your motherboard is a nforce2 board you will need to download and install some drivers from nvidia..

I wrote down a small how to that used the old drivers that were released prior ati supported drivers..

the thing is when the suse install begins it goes to a black screen and then say out of frequency range, so i cant install the drivers because i cant even get it installed. i want to get suse 9 maybe it wont have that problem.

Run the X configurator again and this time just use the Vesa generic drivers first to get your graphics running.
Then AFTER doing this, download the drivers and install.

I CANT GET TO ANYTHING TO SET THE GRAPHICS CARD ON SUSE 8.1 pro. It will not even begin installing because it just goes to the black screen.

I CANNOT INSTALL SUSE (it goes to the black screen after it prepares to install). so i cant install the drivers.
