so if i was to compile wine(x)? and wanted to use that whole bunch of optimizations. what would i type in? or were?
thats another thing. do i need to have wine installed when i install(compile?) winex? or do i only need one.
and i may or may not have the ati driver isntalled. i couldn't find it on the cd but in the setup screen (drake config maybe) there was a ati fglrx option. which i have selected. and the use xfree86 hardware accelerated.
i'm still unsure whats going on.
i will see about rebooting into linux later today. i wanted to play some games. i'll also try installing d2+lod again after i figure out wine and see if i can play it. |

With the CVS version of WineX, you can have one or the other, as they both install to /usr/bin/wine
To compile it with optimisations, type: Code: cd wine-source-dir
export CFLAGS="-pipe -O3 -march=athlon -fomit-frame-pointer"
./configure --prefix=/usr
make
I think Wine has its own script to run rather than configure, it will tell you in the readme To install the modules, first boot to runlevel 3.
(type "linux 3" at the lilo boot: prompt, or edit the kernel command line in grub)
login as root
do lsmod to check there's no radeon module inserted, if there is, remove it with rmmod.
run the config script.
Hopefully you shouldn't get any errors that time.

what should i do if ls mod takes up to much screen space? in other words i can't see them all. there is maybe a full screen of them that goes by when i do it.
ok... i ran it in a root konsole in kde. there is a radeon module. but i uninstalled that rpm so i should install it again and then...
remove the module
then config the new one?
figured an edit is better then a new post ><
it seems i messed up something
ok as root, i rmmod readon
then reinstalled the ati driver.
it went without complaining
made the module
installed the module
ran the fglrxsetup(config) dont remember
believe i setup everything in this
but when it tries to startx my screen goes blank and the screen does its no signal thing
only thing that looks like an error is
using vt 7
could no init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/ , removing from list!
xinit: connection to X server lost
i dont know.

well i managed to fix it.
vnc'd to it, ran the graphical drakconf told it to use 8500 driver not the fglrx one and it got better.
now i'm testing out starcraft with the optimizations. and it seems much better
going to install D2 again tonight and see if its playable
wish i could remember if i had anyother questions that are un-answered
thanks guys |
