Laptop heat problem

I'm using the HP Pavilion ze5300, I have had it for a while, and I let it runs all the time, I'm talking about let it run for days non-stop......

Well, recently, I discover that it is going to help my computer a lot if I just lift it up with something in order to get the air flow, however, one of my fan doesn't seem to be working (it has three fans), and is making buzzy noise, so are there anything I can do?

And also, how can I check if my CPU had been damaged due to the heat and days of non-stopping usage?

If the laptop is still working, I wouldn't be concerned about the CPU having been "damaged".

The lower the internal temperature, the better for all the components.

Elevating the machine an inch or two can do wonders for cooling, especially if it is sitting on a soft surface. In fact, I have been doing the same with my Dell Inspiron 4100, which has been running non-stop for several months!

My machine has two fans, only one of which actually cycles on.
I believe that the second fan kicks in only when the internal temperature rises beyond a second threshold.

As for the buzz, it's difficult to guess.

if cooling is what your intersted in the laptop design is to make the bottom sort of like a heat sink

as for damaging if its working right now you should be fine. as for the buzzing fan if its still under warranty i would call them up for an RMA. Taking apart a laptop can be a a hard thing to do as there are latches and so many hidden screws to open it up and look in to see what is going on.

Max is correct tho, alot of newer laptops fan only kick in when they hit a certain temperature.
