upgrading hard drive

Hi

I have a 12mm bay in my laptop - would a 9mm hard drive do just as well in there? I'm changing the hd on my old sony vaio pcg-x18 (american equivalent = pcg-xg18).

Thanks

It would do fine if you could secure it there firmly.

A wedge of styrofoam comes to mind if there is no mechanical solution.

I had that same problem...also the screw holes were special on my drive holder so i just used some anti static foam...like what a motherboard ships on...but this was a while ago i am not sure if the heat of newer drives would be a problem

"i am not sure if the heat of newer drives would be a problem"

Yeah this might make a problem, if the foam melts.
