laptop LCD as a temporary desktop monitor? possible?

i have to do some work on a relatives system next week. i own a laptop myself, and have no external monitor. i'm trying to find out if i can use my laptop screen as a monitor for the system she is bringing over...just so we dont have to lug her big CRT monitor in the car to. is this possible....

No.. most laptops only output video.. no input.

the easiest way to find out is for you to look at the back of the laptop and see if you have a video in port.

another idea if no video in.....

try www.tightvnc.com

it is a remote desktop client/server that she could install the server onto her machine before bringing it over and hen using a router/crossover cable you could connect to her machin remotely....

tightvnc is of no help here.

You may want to try www.maxivista.com which exactly does what you ask for. Maxivista allows to use a secondary PC as an additional (dual) display of your primary box.

actually you're both wrong, neither tightvnc or maxivista will work becaue both apps require that you install it a client piece of software onto her machine (the desktop). if he doesn't have a monitor to connect to the desktop, how is he going to see anything much less get to install the software in the first place?...NO video is being displayed.
