| Mobile AMD Athlon™ 64 Laptops
Does anyone know if Toshiba is planning to make laptops with this processor? And which other brands are doing this? Is Acer the only big company? thanks |

I read that the E-machine runs at 800Mhz when using battery. I think that contradicts the purpose of a laptop, which has to be portable. |

Where did you here that? There are many e-machine users on this web site with the new 64 bit and none of them have complainined about underclocking performance while using the battery. |

Does anyone have a prediction as for when 64bit applications will become prevalent? |

64bit Windows XP could be out this year some time. But as for other programs/drivers etc it could be a while... I'd say at least another year before you'd see any mainstream programs out. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a 64bit version of DOOM III comming out or was that a fable? |

Yeah I have one of those emachines myself. The m6805. I like it a lot. When on battery, to conserve, I think it does clock down to 800mhz unless in the power management you set it to never shut down and all that stuff.
I hardly use battery though. I only use it about once a month or so to intnetionally drain the battery. |

If you want a realtime display of how it works, just go here and use the link on the right to download the PowerNow Dashboard. It will show you how the CPU will clock down and reduce it's core voltage at idle, but will instantly jump to full power and speed when you need it
BTW - I've got an M6805 too
Great for LAN parties
