Video in for a laptop?

Are there any good usb or firewire devices that I could use to get video in on my laptop. I want to record some of my home made vhs's to dvd and use it sort of like a PVR. I am a bit limited though since my laptop doesn't have usb 2.0. It has usb 1.1, a 4 pin firewire port, and 1 pc card slot open. I would like to be able to record at high quality, but I'm not sure if that is an option.
